Honor Awards for Historic Preservation The month of May is Historic Preservation Month. The Friends of the History Center, the Aransas County Historical Society, and the AC Historical Commission seek worthy examples of historic preservation in Aransas County. Let’s celebrate our county’s heritage with Honor Awards. Deadline for nominations to be submitted is Friday April 19, 2:00 PM. Representatives from each historical organization will select the winners and honor them at an event on Thursday, May 23, 6:00 PM in the garden at the History Center, 801 E. Cedar St. Rockport, TX.
Honor awards in 2023 were presented to the Meyeres (Upside Ventures LLC) and Rockport Center for the Arts (Luis Puron, Executive Director, RCA) for the preservation of the Kline’s Café building; the town of Fulton and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) for maintaining and operating the Fulton Schoolhouse Museum; and the Friends of Connie Hagar who preserved the site of Hagar’s home. Awards in 2022 went to Jackie Shaw for the move of the Stella Maris Chapel along with significant contributions to various historical organizations; to Ty Husak for documenting the move of the Kline’s café building; and to the Rockport Cultural Arts District for restoration and development of the Rockport Railroad Museum and Community Center.
